About Me

I am an explorer. I observe nature and revel in its many wonders. I also teach and write some because I can't contain my excitement upon making a new discovery. I keep a menagerie of pets, mostly invertebrates and reptiles, because there is always something to be learned from animal behavior (also called ethology).

I grew up in the Los Angeles area, where I played in meadows and splashed in the ocean as a child. (Actually, the meadow was a vacant lot behind the liquor store, but it served the same purpose.) After raising two awesome kids and obtaining a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from Oregon State University, I moved to Arizona, where I obtained a master's degree in education from Arizona State University. I have worked as a field naturalist in California and as a K-8 teacher in Arizona. I enjoy reading great books, dabbling in art, and learning about the natural world.
